The gender of the characters is of no importance. The Vocal Range assignments - listed below - are based on the sheet music. The range/key of each song can be changed to accommodate your casting. We have had actors use Sprechgesang (imagine Rex Harrison’s “singing” technique in “My Fair lady”) to wonderful effect. Please use the vocal ranges listed only as suggestions.

A child who is looked up to by Pooh and the others. Wiser and more mature than the other characters.

Always glum, pessimistic, and often sarcastic. Lives in the gloomy part of the forest.

Kanga

A female kangaroo and the mother of Roo. Kindhearted, patient, and motherly.

Narrator

The storyteller. Only heard, never seen.

Owl

A stuffy and talkative character who is prone to long-winded speeches. A superior but kindly manner. Perceived by the others as very knowledgeable.

Pooh’s best friend. Kind, gentle, and shy. Often fearful but can be very brave with Pooh’s encouragement.

Rabbit

Friendly and cares about his/her friends but insists on doing things his/her way. Obsessed with rules, planning, and order. The smartest animal in the woods.
